The Water Diary began as Swim Bonnie Swim, a challenge to swim in 100 different places to raise money and awareness of Alzheimers disease.

The only rules were that each swim had to be outside and in a new location. Otherwise, everything counted – lakes, lochs, lidos, rivers, seas. Some swims were more of a dip, some more of a journey, but each one was undoubtedly unique. For details on each individual swim, please see the home page.

When the challenge was completed, I didn’t want to give up the habit of chronicling my swims. Writing and photographing each excursion gave me a chance to think about why I do this and why I love this, and so I decided to keep an online water diary – less structured, freer and more varied perhaps, but still a place to celebrate all things watery.
